We want to give something unusual, beautiful and useful, that has lasting value. I had received an Indian throw and began searching online for something similar. I found more than I expected at Shalin Craft. They sell handmade coverlets for twin, queen and king-sized beds. The term coverlet refers to two pieces of fabric -- not flimsy like Indian bedspreads -- that are stitched together around the edges and quilted with a simple running stitch.
The design makes them so important. The hand blocking is visually similar to American pieced quilts, and was probably an influence on them. Some have bold colors in a strong graphic design that you'd see in an Amish quilt. Some use color to create a 3-D effect similar to the American pattern Baby Blocks. There are many choices.
